I have a Fujitsu P1610 Tablet PC and I really like it. Since it is so small and light, it means I can take it with me anywhere without it being like I'm carrying around a laptop. :) I love Tablet PC functionality, but when I'm at home, I'm on my iMac. I wish I had an ultra-portable Mac laptop to carry fun Mac apps with me. :P
My P1610 has an 8" screen, so it's pretty small. :)
I know the MacBook isn't that big, but it's still not as small as my P1610. I have purses that can easily fit the P1610 and not seem like I have a computer with me.
According to Fujitsu's site, the P1610's screen specs are:
8.9" wide XGA indoor/outdoor touch screen display
I run it at its maximum resolution of 1280x768. It looks so nice... And the little laptop is so light, I can carry it in one hand like a pad of paper (it's not as thin as I'd like, but it is ultra portable) when it's in slate mode. Great for taking notes in a meeting or something, but still nice enough to do photo editing if I want.
I guess it's hard to explain how convenient a device this small can be... If you read blog posts that James Kendrick from jkOnTheRun has posted about it, maybe he can convince you. :)
@tyoshida: I pine for a MacBook Pro, too. I want a teeny-tiny computer to throw in my bag to carry everywhere (without breaking my back), and a huge 17" MBP for a desktop replacement machine (though the 17" iMac is doing just fine). :D
Anyway, it's not that I wouldn't like a 13" MacBook. I'd just prefer a smaller laptop, since I'm so used to my tiny Pigio. I suppose the 13" MacBook is pretty light, isn't it?
@jezlyn I used to carry around PB 17" everyday. But it was too heavy to be carried around everyday, everywhere. So after that, I decided to go to PB12". :-) Basically, I've gone through all sizes of PowerBooks. I think 15" is really the sweet spot. If you always want to carry it and you don't mind the smaller screen size, 12" is the way to go though. I really enjoyed using it!
a tablet with a 7-9" screen would be nice. just a bigger version of the iphone. smooth and shiny. would like to see what apple can come up with making a touch OS.
@yoggel: Awesome! I was totally wanting either the LE1700 or the LS800... They look =so= easy to carry around and stuff. If Apple ever makes a Tablet, I would imagine that they'd go the slate route, and just provide a wireless keyboard as a peripheral. They would really need to improve HWR to at least be as good as Tablet PC HWR.
@RickMeasham: Do you really have one of those? Even if you are joking, I still think it's a pretty cool PC. :) It's certainly not a laptop, but it reminds me of the VAIO all-in-one PCs (I would love one of those).
@rubin: Perhaps one day I will plunk down money for a "regular" MacBook when I am let down by Apple re: mini-laptops... They do look sweet. :)
@pjakubo86: I'll never be without a large hardware calculator. The one on the computer just takes too long to start up, move to a point where it's not in front of the numbers I'm looking at and enter the calculation. Plus, you can't type 58008 on a computer and turn it upside down for a giggle.

Totally... I hope it isn't too much of a let down. :P I want a mini-laptop. :)

Could you explain the allure of the mini-laptop? I've heard many people lament this missing piece of hardware and I'm not sure I understand why.

@Vermyndax: I guess that would be a MacBook Pro version of the 12" PowerBook.

But why? A Macbook is just 13.3".

I know... I guess it's not small enough for some people :)
I actually have both a MacBook and an old 12" PB, and they're both great laptops.

@jezlyn: @Vermyndax's got a point. Wouldn't you love a black MacBook?

I would! I just want it to be smaller. :)

How smaller? 12"? 10.4"?
The problem is, it's tough to have a nice widescreen display when it's so small. I can sell you my 12" PB if you want ;)

PB 12" was a sweet machine. But when the MacBook Pro was released, I traded my old PB 12" for a new shiny MacBook Pro.

a friend of mine refers to my (somewhat aged, now) Powerbook as 'the computer that includes its own desk'.
Which is fine, since 99% of its use is as a desktop - and I can handle the weight for the other 1% of the time :)

Yes, Ma'am. Light and black and nice and the best Mac I've ever had.

@Rick: What is that ancient looking machine next to your Dell? Try Start->Run->calc.exe ;-)

Wait...that looks like Linux. Um...Applications->Accessories->Calculator
